Who I Am, and Why I Write This Newsletter
Hi, I'm Mel.

For years I used to think success was time + discipline.
Then ADHD and perimenopause taught me it’s actually energy + design.
Before that, I built my life the traditional way. When I was starting out I worked in banking, then became a mortgage broker, then built a business…and on paper, it worked.
I co-built two successful businesses, built a property portfolio, and became mortgage-free before 40.
But here’s what people didn’t see:
A lot of those wins were powered by pressure.
Adrenaline.
Over-functioning.
And a quiet belief that if I just stayed disciplined enough, I’d finally feel free.
I didn’t.
Because the biggest barriers were never external.
They were invisible - the mindset rules I’d internalised about money, success, and what it meant to be “high-performing.”
I had to unlearn employee thinking.
Rebuild my relationship with risk.
And stop measuring success by output alone.
Then, just when I thought I’d “figured it out”… my body and brain changed the game.
A few years ago I was diagnosed with ADHD.
And not long after, perimenopause in my early 40’s.
Suddenly, the systems I used to rely on stopped working.
My focus wasn’t consistent.
My energy wasn’t predictable.
My motivation came in waves.
And hustle culture advice started feeling less like motivation… and more like shame.
That’s when I learned the shift that changed everything:
Stop managing time. Start owning your energy.
Because discipline isn’t the answer - design is.
So I rebuilt the way I work (and the way I run a business) around energy-led systems:
focus windows instead of forcing 9–5 productivity
weekly resets instead of constant overwhelm
“done for now” instead of perfectionism
shame-free structure that bends with real life
And that’s what I share inside The Owner Switch Newsletter.
Each week, you’ll get practical tools + honest insights for high-achieving humans who are navigating ADHD, hormones, burnout - or just the messy middle of building something of their own:
✅ energy budgeting + focus systems that actually stick
✅ money habits that protect your capacity (even if it’s messy)
✅ anti-hustle strategy for sustainable growth
✅ real talk about the emotional side of entrepreneurship
I’m not a coach or a guru (and definitely not a doctor).
Just someone walking the same path - learning, adapting, and building a version of success that doesn’t cost your wellbeing.
Because ownership isn’t about being perfect.
It’s about building a life (and business) that still works when your energy doesn’t.
Welcome to The Owner Switch. I’m really glad you’re here.
